Religion

Morning Prayer … when you say this prayer, you are asking Jesus to help you do what is right.

Hold my hand, Lord,
Show me the way.
Help me be grateful every day.
Show me the difference
Between right and wrong.
Keep me safe, Lord, all day long.
Give me direction on what to do,
Lead the way, Lord,
I trust in you.
Amen.

Religion Textbook … pp. 154-157; 159

Please read, write and discuss these pages with a grown-up.

Write About It

In your journal, write the New Commandment taught by Jesus.  What does the New Commandment mean?  Write three ways that you can follow the New Commandment.  Try to do at least one of the things you write about.

Love One Another Coloring Poster

Here is a poster for you to color to remind you to follow the New Commandment.   (If you save it to your desktop, you can print it.)

Learn the Ten Commandments

Use the following list to study the Ten Commandments.  Keep practicing!  When you think you can say all ten without looking at the list, you and I will have a Zoom meeting together!  You do not have to say them in order, and you do not have to use the exact same words, as long as you understand what the commandment means.  Do not worry about our meeting.  I will help you if you need it.  Take as long as you need … we do not have to have our Zoom meeting this week … but we can if you are ready!  Congratulations to Austin and Olivia O.  … they both had their Zoom meetings with me, and can say the Ten Commandments!

God’s Perfect Ten

1. Keep God first in your life.

2. Keep God’s name holy.

3. Keep the Lord’s day holy.

4. Love and obey your parents and  guardians.

5. Do not kill … be kind to people and animals.

6. Be respectful in the things you do with your body.

7. Do not steal.

8. Do not tell lies.

9. Keep your thoughts and words clean.

10. Be happy with the things you have … don’t be jealous of others.

Reading

Read 20read for at least 20 minutes each day this week

You can read by yourself, read to a family member, read to a pet or to a stuffed animal … OR … you can listen to an audio book (see the K-2 Websites page) … OR … listen to someone read to you!

Don’t forget to talk with a grown-up about what you have read!

I-ready Reading … please try to complete at least 5 lessons this week

You can do more than five lessons, but give each lesson your best effort!

Reading Book

Read The Bremen Town Musicians, pp. 254-275.  Discuss questions 1-3 on p. 274 with a grown-up; answer the writing question in your journal.

Reading Practice Book

Complete pages 83-90.  Check them with a grown-up and leave them in your book for now.  Let me know if you have any questions.

Writing

Reading Book

Write Now: pp. 280-281.  Follow the directions to create a poster that tells people about a show at our school or in our community.   Check your work using the list on p. 281.

Grammar: p. 281.  Using the poster in your book on p. 280, find three plural nouns that change spelling.  Write the plural form and the singular form of each noun that you found.

Write your teacher an email at least once this week!

You can write more than once!  I love hearing from you … and I promise to write back!

Write in your writing journal at least three times.

Put a date at the top of the page.  Use a new page for each new story or journal entry.

You may write about what you have been doing, write about a funny thing that happened to you, or write a story that you have created out of your own imagination.

Your story may be short or long.  It does not have to be about you.

Try to use powerful words that help your reader understand your story better.

You may want to add to your story when you write the next day.  You do not have to write a brand-new story every day.

Do not worry about spelling every word correctly while you are writing.  After you have finished writing your story, you can ask a grown-up to help you edit and revise.

When you are finished with a story, your grown-up can take a picture of it and send it to me through email.  Your grown-up could also take a video of you reading your story … I would love to hear it!

If you don’t know what to write about … try to use one of the following writing prompts:

  • If I were a grandma or grandpa, I would definitely …   (Be sure to include your reasons!)
  • When it is very dark and quiet in my house, you can hear …   (Be sure to include powerful, descriptive words.)
  • One day, I saw a big, pink …  (Tell what it was doing … it would be fun to include a picture with lots of detail!)

Math

Study 20 (study for at least 20 minutes three times this week)

You can study your math binder, practice with flash cards, use Splash Math, or play other math games for at least 20 minutes.

I-ready Math  (please try to complete at least 5 lessons this week)
